I got a new tattoo! I came to Costa Rica wanting to get a tattoo that would represent something I learned in the country. I had no idea what that would be... a symbol, picture, word, or Bible verse. I left it all up to God!
So a week ago the Lord provided me with my tattoo idea: the phrase “Look up.” God was so clear with this phrase that I’m beyond happy to have the reminder on my wrist.
This phrase represents God calling me to look towards the heavens for my help instead of towards myself or worldly knowledge. While reading Psalm 121 one morning, I savored the words “I lift my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heavens and earth.” I pictured myself looking to the magnificent mountains of Costa Rica and admiring their beauty and then remembering that the creator is even more awe inspiring and He is my helper. Then at church a couple days later that same passage was read out loud. A super cool moment where God confirmed what he was teaching me.
This phrase also reminds me of the verse 1 Peter 1:16 which says “be holy for I am Holy.” During this trip I have learned that this verse isn’t God’s exasperation, but a gentle call to strive for righteousness as Jesus did so we can be close to him. So the phrase “look up” will help me to remember to look beyond the world’s temptations and towards what the Lord says about what it looks like to be successful in Christ’s view.
So stop looking down at the hurt in your life and look up to the father who heals! Look up and try to be more like Christ.
Sincerely, Jennasey.
